We were thrilled as a company to be the promotional partner for the Columbus Business First Women in Business event last Thursday morning. This was a huge opportunity for us, and we look forward to future partnerships with their team!
I personally had the opportunity to take the morning off and head over to the Fawcett Center to attend the event, and I don’t think I could have enjoyed it more. The morning started with a beautiful breakfast buffet and time to connect with other Columbus professional women. As a recent Columbus transfer and a new employee at Outreach Promos, events like these can be a bit intimidating, as it seems that everyone knows everyone. Despite my early assumptions, I felt incredibly welcomed and comfortable from start to finish.
After breakfast, we were directed into the first panel discussion entitled “The Salary and Leadership Gap,” where Ann Fisher (@AnnFisherWOSU), Tracy Heard (@RepTracyHeard), Julie Graber (@GenderEQA), Sharon Thomas DeLay (@Career_Coach) and Karen Hough (@KarenHough) shared their insights on the salary and leadership gap, as well as what women can do to even the playing field. All offered inspirational advice with a bit of spunk to keep the room full of ladies (and a few gentlemen) laughing and intrigued.
The second panel discussion was a “Spotlight on Women Entrepreneurs,” featuring Colleen Marshall (NBC4i), Darla King (@TweetsByKing), Beverley Ryan (@ologie) and Pamela Springer (@pspringer). The women shared their experiences with building their companies from the ground up and the practices they find most beneficial in continuing their success and supporting their teams.
Ultimately, I walked away from the event with a few business cards from women who I have already connected with or made plans to grab coffee with. Congrats Columbus Business First on a successful event. I can’t wait for the next one!
